Kemin Industries and UN World Food Programme announce public-private partnership
WFP's partnership with Kemin aims to improve the safety and quality of its food basket.
The President and CEO of Kemin, Dr Chris Nelson, met with Nancy Roman, WFP’s Director of Communications, Public Policy and Private Partnerships, to finalise agreement with United Nations World Food Programme during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2012, in Switzerland.
WFP, the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger around the world, unveiled a landmark strategic plan in 2008 that aimed to transform the organization from a food aid to a food assistance agency while allowing WFP to feed more than 90 million people a year. The partnership with Kemin itself aims to improve the safety and quality of WFP’s food basket. By tapping into Kemin Industries’ 50 years of experience in manufacturing nutritional ingredients, which are produced according to the highest standards of quality and safety., the WFP aims to develop and implement a Food Safety Quality Management System (FSQMS).
Kemin will work closely with WFP trainers to develop education programs for WFP staff and implementing partners, including inspection companies and suppliers. The aim is to equip WFP procurement teams with the knowledge and skills to evaluate the quality and safety of food products, suppliers, producers and processors.
Kemin Industries provides inspired molecular solutions developed to provide nutrition and health benefits for humans and animals. The company is wholly dedicated to food safety and operate top of the line food manufacturing plants, developing over five hundred specially made ingredients. The company’s experience comes from running operations in more than 90 countries around the globe, and employing over 1,500 employees.
"Kemin's generous gift of technology and understanding of key nutrition issues is helping us feed people smarter," says WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran.
