Astell has been leading the way in energy efficient small capacity sterilizers for over a decade.
With economic fluctuations in the food and drinks sector, alongside rising utility costs, there has never been greater pressure on food and drinks companies to keep costs down. Astell Scientific have been producing autoclaves that are uniquely tailored to the situation that food and drink sector quality control laboratories find themselves in, even though the technology that makes them so was designed around twenty years ago.
Astell’s Benchtop autoclave range is available in three chamber capacities; 33 litres, 43 litres and 63 litres, and as Classic and ‘Ecofill’ versions. Autofill (now named ‘Ecofill’) was introduced by Astell in the early 2000’s and has been a popular feature for many years as it offers both convenience and reduced water consumption.
All Ecofill Benchtop autoclaves require no plumbing whatsoever – simply plug the unit in to a single phase power supply and fill the integral water reservoir. Once filled, this provides water for up to 15 cycles, and also acts as a collection vessel for condensate and the water that is automatically returned from the chamber at the end of each cycle – making Astell Benchtop Ecofill units one of the lowest water consumption autoclaves available. Furthermore, with downsizing and re-allocation of laboratory space a very real concern, Astell Ecofill units can be used in almost any location as they are unrestricted by drain or a mains water feed location.
The pressure vessel design ensures the absolute minimum amount of water is needed for every cycle, which not only means very low power consumption, but also very quick heating and cooling, reducing cycle times by up to 50% over similar models. This along with the Autofill water recirculation system ensures Astell benchtop/table top autoclaves are amongst the lowest power and water consuming sterilizers on the market.
Astell is the only UK manufacturer of bench top sterilizers who fit a 5.7 inch colour touchscreen as standard, and indeed across the whole range. The Astell controller offers benefits in both safety and efficiency by allowing sterilization cycles to be monitored as they take place, providing live progress updates, and clear warning messages if required. Additionally users have the flexibility to create and modify their own cycle parameters for optimum suitability (this facility is password protected to prevent unauthorised alterations to cycles). Historic data covering up to 5,000 cycles can be stored and viewed, or downloaded via the integrated USB port – included with the Astell controller as standard.
This combination of features allows Astell’s Ecofill autoclaves to meet the needs of quality control laboratories today. This is a result of Astell’s historic and ongoing drive to make the most economical, as well as ecologically-, and user- friendly autoclaves available to quality control laboratory managers in the food and drink sector.
