This additive controls up to 99.9% of bacterial microbes including salmonella, E-coli and many other types of bacteria and yeast on contact – and theprocess remains active for the floor’s lifetime. For Line 19, Hydraseal and Flowcrete HF were applied across 1,200 square metres. Installed in four weeks under two phases, the textured Flowcrete HFwas applied in a ‘live’ working environment and involved the sheeting up of the area to ensure the smooth running of the site. Both lines also used Flowcrete’s Hydraseal damp proof membrane as part of the application process.8 Food & Drink Internationalwww.fdiforum.netSmart cameras for packaging inspectionStemmer Imaging will be showing acomprehensive range of smart vision and compactvision systems at Pro2Pac.System capabilities will cover applications asdiverse as 3D measurement of product volume tooptimise packing and reduce packaging waste, product and packaging inspection and code andlabel reading and verification. The Gocator 3D camera offers a host of 3Dmeasurement capabilities such as product volume, surface flatness and groove measurements and canbe used in direct packaging applications or in themanufacture of packaging materials. From theTelford head office, Finance DirectorAndrew Russell recalls: “We’d beenrunning with a Pegasus Opera 2 system formany years, but had completely outgrownit. It was no longer able to provideadequate support. We’d also made twoacquisitions and at one point were runninghalf a dozen different computer systems. We needed a solution that we could rollout across all six depots.”Commenting on the process of selectinga replacement system, Andrew continues:“After an extensive review, we narrowed itdown to two contenders: Sage ERP X3 andMicrosoft Dynamics Great Plains. TheSage product seemed to be more flexibleand could be more easily tailored to ourindustry and particular businessrequirements.”Integrated, realtime information Around 25 staff in three depots now useSage ERP X3, and these numbers are setto double over time. Andrew is clear about the benefits ofimplementing a new enterprise resourceplanning system, highlighting the improvedstock control that is making a markedcontribution to profitability and customerservice: “We have information from acrossthe company consolidated within a singlelocation and can view this integrated datain realtime, rather than retrospectively. We can see which stock is held at whichdepot and no longer have to call the depotto check.”Ruskim Seafoods is about to roll outlocation control in its warehouses, wherebyguided picks will save time by directingpickers to stock items. Improved stockrotation is also firmly on the agenda.Looking further ahead, containermanagement modules are set to improvecontrol of container import operations. Choosing a business partnerThe selection of a Sage Business Partnerto implement the Sage ERP X3 solutionwas just as important as the choice oftechnology. Recalling initial meetings withthe eventual choice, Warrington-basedDatel, Andrew notes: “Datel’s knowledgeand enthusiasm really impressed us, as wellas their commitment to finding a solutionthat fitted the business and would delivergood value for our budget.” Datel is the UK’s largest Sage BusinessPartner and the Datel team’s extensiveknowledge of the food and drink industrycame to the fore in the area of telesales, which is a critical component of many foodbusinesses. Datel recommended creating atelesales suite that would allow staff totake the order straight from the customeronto the screen and check stock availabilitythere and then. Andrew says: “It’s worked well. Now, ifthere are any issues around lack of stock,we can immediately substitute products, rather than having to write it all down, rekey in the information, and then call thecustomer back. It saves a lot of time andeliminates the errors that arise when youhave to keep re-entering data.”A resilient solution Rather than locating the software in oneof the six depots, Ruskim Seafoods optedfor cloud-based hosting, knowing thiswould create a more robust platform for itsoperations. It chose Datel Advansys, acompany within the Datel groupspecialising in IT infrastructure solutions,as the provider. Andrew says: “We lookedaround at other hosting packages, but theprofessionalism of Datel Advansys tippedthe scales in their favour.” Andrew praises the support that RuskimSeafoods continues to receive: “The wholeDatel team is very knowledgeable and canalways be relied upon to provide solutionsto achieve our objectives.”For more information about howDatel can support your food anddrink business, visit www.datel.infoor call 0845 521 1875.New business technology helps Ruskim Seafoods steer a course to improved stock controlOver the past three decades, family-owned Ruskim Seafoods has become one of Europe’s leadingimporters, distributors and wholesalers of seafood, meat and poultry. The company serves over5,000 customers through six depots strategically situated across the UK and Ireland, and runs afleet of over eighty refrigerated delivery vehicles. 04-11:Layout 1 25/1/13 12:16 Page 6Next >
