Over 30 leading companies have already signed up to a Welsh SkillsPledge and committing them to a range of actions. These include sendingcompany ambassadors into schools, hosting visits at their manufacturingsites and promoting career opportunities within their local communities. Another leading element of the plan is to increase the availability andprovision of apprenticeships. One of the first examples of this in action willsee the launch of a new level 3 apprenticeship in food engineering, whichis in response to research indicating an existing skills gap. It is envisaged that this approach will be the blueprint for futurecollaboration as the industry continues to work closely with WelshGovernment to develop appropriate courses that help drive innovation andincrease productivity.Chair of the Food and Drink Wales Industry Board, Andy Richardson said: “It’s been a great experience to work closely with so many peopleacross the sector on the creation of what is essentially an industry-led solution to one of the main problems facing businesses.“By listening closely to those who work daily in the industry, we now understand more about what they need to help them grow. As a board,we’re determined to press ahead with the implementation of the plan and work with wider stakeholders on raising the profile of some of thefantastic careers available in our successful food and drink industry.” 04-09_Layout 1 27/02/2018 09:39 Page 1Food & Drink International 5www.fdiforum.netnewsDNP and SIG create jointventure in JapanTokyo-basedDai NipponPrinting (DNP)and SIG havesigned a jointventureagreement whichwill bring newvalue addedcarton packagingand fillingtechnologysolutions to theJapanese foodand beverage industry.
