Interroll will present its Modular Conveyor Platform (MCP) with modules that have the new DC platform with EC5000 RollerDrive installed and use energy-efficient 24V and 48V conveyor technology for zero pressure accumulation. Users benefit from the quick and easy installation and quiet operation. The Interroll MCP offers high throughput and can be flexibly applied in entire conveying systems, assuring maximum uptime and scalability for future growth. Interroll will also exhibit its Crossbelt Sorter range, perfectly tailored to the value creation and requirements of system integrators, whilst boosting end users’ throughput while reducing operating and maintenance costs dramatically. The range includes installation-friendly sorters which are quick and easy to integrate into larger systems. Depending on the unit loads conveyed, performance targets and spatial conditions, sorters with either a horizontal configuration (circular structure) or vertical configuration (linear structure) can be deployed. Linde will demonstrate its L- MATIC AGV pallet stacker, a truck that does not need the infrastructure often associated with automatic guided vehicles, making it much simpler to install. It can be operated manually, handle loads of up to 1.2 tonnes and lift up to heights of 1.9 metres. The truck features a comprehensive suite of safety features that reliably perceive people and obstacles in the warehouse. The Linde-MATIC series is based on ‘infrastructure-free’ geo- guidance technology which enables the truck to change aisles and manoeuvre around walls, pillars and other obstructions, driver-free. Mike Hawkins, Head of Logistics Solutions at Linde UK, said: “Our robotics range is at the forefront of automation within the materials handling industry and we are looking forward to bringing our flexible range of trucks and services to this event.” Tel: +44(0) 845 608 5000 Web: www.linde-mh.com/en Email: www.linde-mh.co.uk Stand: 512 & 610 logistics” while a visitor from XPO Logistics said it was “an excellent showcase of current and future suppliers to the intralogistics market” and “well worth the visit”. IntraLogisteX 2020 is also home to two conference programmes – the IntraLogisteX Conference and the Automation and Innovation Conference, both of which delegates can gain up to 8.5 CPD hours from attending. Day one of the Automation and Innovation Conference includes Clipper Logistics chief executive Tony Mannix discussing ‘The Importance of Reverse Logistics’; Kerren Ratcliffe, associate director at Coca Cola European Partners, on ‘Improving Customers Expectations Using Customer Data’ and Paul Whyte, MD at Best Food Logistics on ‘Transforming Profitability Through Brilliant Execution of the Final Metre’. Day two sees Jim Hartshorne, MD at DHL Supply Chain, on ‘Using Automation as your Fulfilment Journey’; Andrew Hoyle, head of automation at Wincanton on ‘Warehouse Management’ and Rod McKenzie, MD of policy and public affairs at the RHA, on ‘Post-Brexit Logistics’ among many others. The IntraLogisteX conference, which also runs across both days, already has speakers from Lucas Systems, Calor Gas, Sage UK, Oxspring, BluJay Solutions and Aurora Lighting confirmed. With the onslaught of digital, it was only a matter of time before it impacted the logistics of the supply chain. Digital at its heart is all about the connected world and in the end intralogistic processes will follow suit, with automated systems that are connected to storage machines, order pick stations, replenishment and consolidation and data analysis. For intralogistic requirements it’s not just about the technology, it’s about remaining competitive and driving improved customer service whilst maintaining and improving the bottom line. Kardex Remstar is seen as a critical partner in enabling ‘real-time’ optimisation with up to 200% increase in picking accuracy, and picking speeds Being competitive and delivering a faster more accurate service at a lower TCO is still the main motivator. In the end it’s about the positive impact on the bottom line, so let’s consider five key areas of potential profit in warehousing and order fulfilment: • How much labour does a picking operation require? • What is the value of additional floor space? • Are picking operations fast enough to meet customer demand at peak and average performance? • What is the cost of an absent worker? • How much does a picking mistake cost? • What is the reputational damage of high returns? Today we see solutions such as ‘Pick to Light and Pack to Light’ systems which have become key trends in automating the order picking process. These systems can be linked to an organisations WMS/MRP SYSTEM, giving a seamless experience from storage through to packaging, This aligns with digital methodology and impacts all areas of delivery. What about the omni-channel? As Intralogistic applications continue to be scrutinized in terms of efficiency: they have to work more flexibly, stock a wider range of items within a smaller space and guarantee faster retrieval times. At the same time, storage and handling requirements are increasingly shifting towards bins and trays. To cope with these demands, companies such as Kardex have invested significant time and resources in developing a new generation of automated storage systems, which offer high order picking performance and provide excellent value for money while being environmentally friendly (consuming less energy) and optimised space One such solution is the vertical buffer module LR 35. For example, the LR35 provides omni-channel retailers a critical competitive advantage. This is achieved by providing the ability to package lots of similar product ranges together, reducing transport costs when delivering to stores, but also efficiently processes individual orders for the end customer. Since many different slow- moving goods are the cause of relatively high process, storage, and picking costs, omni-channel retailers in particular can benefit from solutions such as the LR 35. What about slow moving stock? For ‘Slow Mover Management’ application, the LR 35 proves to be Q&A David Burywood, Sales Director, Kardex Remstar UK & Ireland We sat down with David Burywood, Sales Director at Kardex Remstar UK & Ireland to discuss the importance of delivering customer expectation in logistics to retain that competitive edge within the food and drinks Industry. The LR 35 guarantees almost twice the order picking performance of the classic mini-load system, reducing the requirement of physical space by up to 40%. What about your workforce? Automated storage utilises the ‘goods-to-person method’ and has a direct impact on a company’s ergonomic working environment. This has meant using a reduction in staff, allowing these resources to be used elsewhere. We hear a lot about ‘Data’ what role does this play in intralogistics? Optimisation of workflow, product(s), processes, shipment, customer trends, software etc is recorded and analysed to understand how the impact on the logistics business, which is key to future business process optimisation to satisfy the requirements of the observed customer trends. Without this data an organisation will only be able to estimate work in future optimisation plans. Where is storage going? In the next 2 to 5 years we will increase ‘smarter’ more innovative automation solutions rather than processes. Solutions are all encompassing and take into account the optimisation of the processes, machine type required, software functionality and services. Consider the ever-increasing demands of the customer alongside faster technological advances, intralogistics will need to embrace the essential importance of efficient, optimised storage to remain competitive. Here’s a sneak peak at one of our latest stories. A new £1.15 million fund has been launched to help tackle food waste in households and supply chains. It will provide funding for businesses and not-for-profits in England to devise creative new ways to tackle food waste by changing people’s behaviour or transforming it into other materials. From educating the public on how to store fresh food, to ideas such as turning food waste into new edible products, grants will be available for creative solutions to address this pressing environmental challenge. With 4.5 million tonnes of food wasted every year, the new grants are the latest step in the government’s drive to reduce food waste in the UK by 20% by 2025. It forms part of a wider £15 million scheme to specifically address surplus food from the retail and manufacturing sectors. “I look forward to supporting UK organisations who are taking up the mantle to tackle food waste and to create a better world for ourselves, as well as generations to come,” said Environment Minister Rebecca Pow.
