Olympic Varnish coats a variety of packagingfor food products at its Stroud factory. The coaterline has three coating stations and these are usedto apply the polymer coats. It is important that theboard is dried after each coating. Previously thishad been accomplished with steam-heated, hot airdriers in the coating line. However, this was veryenergy-intensive. In addition, if there was a line stoppage, they could not be switched off andso continued to heat any boards held within the driers, leading to damage. To solve these problems, it was decided to use infra-red for drying and three 7kW carbonmedium wave modules were easily retrofitted before each drier. There was no need to removethe driers and today these are merely supplied with ambient, unheated air.news4 Food & Drink Internationalwww.fdiforum.netPawkit water activitymeter can save time atcharcuterie producerLabcell has supplied a Decagon Devices(METER Group) AquaLab Pawkit portable wateractivity meter to Chiddingstone Farm fortesting the salt-cured lamb, mutton, goat andvenison that it produces. Thenew formula – now known as Ice ‘n’Clean – features a colour indicatorand is completely odourless.Limescale and slime-freeIf ice-making elements are notregularly cleaned, they becomecalcified, causing ice to build up andclog the system. This creates theperfect environment for slime to grow, which doesn’t just smell, but makesice taste bad. Ice ‘n’ Clean clearsheavy limescale and slime depositswith ease, ensuring machines produce fresh, clean-tasting ice.EffortlessBased on organic and mineral acids, the new formula is safe for usewith all ice machines, whether nickel or aluminium, and is incrediblyeasy to use. The new product has 11% more descaling power than HB-30. Simply circulate fresh water through the system and add Ice ‘n’Clean, wait 30 minutes and then flush. The product’s red colouringclearly indicates whether or not the system is completely clean.Nicholas Jones04-12.qxp_Layout 1 24/04/2018 09:38 Page 104-12.qxp_Layout 1 24/04/2018 09:38 Page 2National Flexible HeraldHealth & Nutrition brandsHealth & Nutrition brands are chiefly high value products which require acombination of on shelf packaging presentation with productpreservation and protection.
