Thecompany recently received the Manufacturing Excel-lence award 2012 from parent company Halma, beat-ing off competition from forty other subsidiaries.According to Halma, “Castell has transformed itsmanufacturing capability through product design in-novation, excellent application of lean manufactur-ing and an ambition for international expansion. Ithas an incredibly efficient UK manufacturing baseand an assembly shop in the Halma China hub, whichis now making the majority of company output.”Traditionally, trapped key interlocking systemscould only be produced once key coding details hadbeen received, leading to long delivery times while thesystem was confirmed. Three years ago Castell intro-duced the end-coding system, meaning productscould be built and coded at the end of the process. This dramatically reduced the time in which productscould be delivered.newsAA Robotics launch Hyundai robots in UK andIrelandAA Robotics have been appointedby Hyundai Robots as their represen-tative in the UK and Ireland for thesales, support and service of theHyundai range of robots. Udarnitsa was so pleased with the SFR’sperformance, they bought a second SFR cartoner, this time with a Right Angle Transfer (R.A.T.) infeed, to pack trays of chocolate marshmallows. The R.A.T.system receives product on a conveyor at 90 degrees to the SFR infeed, then synchronises and transfers them between the flights of the cartoner. In addition to the Smartbelt and R.A.T. infeed options, the SFR150’s modular design enables other choices for either hand loading, collating or stacking– providing tailor made solutions for improved productivity.Burger King gets fast fit withKingspan Modular ColdroomA new Burger King restaurant at a Euro Garagesservice station in Uttoxeter has boosted cold storespace by installing a Kingspan Modular Coldroom. The new system can also sup-port sustainability goals as it usesless fuel to achieve this enhancedperformance. The 3G Airflow sys-tem – Double D’s third generation of airflow design for its Revoband Con-tinuous Protein Oven – can achieve an average 10% improvement in cooktimes, and up to 42% on certain types of bacon. The airflow system, which has been developed at JBT FoodTech’s FoodTechnology Centre in Broxburn in the UK, requires no additional energy toachieve these benefits. The system generates an increased volume of air within the cooker, fromboth top and bottom louvres. This thermal response improves the powerdelivered to the product and this has led to major reductions in cook times.Electronic Temperature Instruments Ltdlaunches waterproofthermometerThe AquaTemp waterproof thermometeris simple to operate, reliable and built to last.Housed in a dust and waterproof white ABScase offering IP66/67 protection, theAquatemp is designed for reliability and ease ofuse. Problemsoccur when unconditioned, moisture-laden airpasses into low temperature areas. When thismoist air comes into contact with very coldsurfaces, it condenses and freezes, creating abuild-up of ice that is a risk to safety.Munters’ solution was to install an IceDryMLT1400 desiccant dehumidifier inside thecold store in order to target moisture at source.Andy Gordon of Kitchen Range Foods says,“The condition of the cold store has greatlyimproved and we are now snow and ice freefor the first time in many years.” Keepingevaporators free of ice also means they havebeen able to reduce daily defrosts from three per day down to two per day.www.fdiforum.net9newsLinden Foods named manufacturer of the yearMeat processing company, Linden Foods, has been named UK Manufacturer of theYear in the 2012 Meat ManagementAwards.Linden Foods beat off stiff competitionfrom other manufacturing companies acrossthe UK to win the award.
