Every pallet in the high bay storage is linked to the system with its minimumsell-by date and lot number. This ensures bays are filled according to the first-in, first-out principle. Pallet height and the maximum weight can also be checked and master data can also specify whether the item needs to be forwarded to a quick freezingposition, and in which segment of the warehouse it is stored.Electronic Temperature InstrumentsLtd introduces combinedpH meter andthermometerThe new 8100 Plus pH meter kit is suppliedwith everything you need to perform quick spotchecks of pH and temperature anywhere, atany time. The 8100 Plus pH kit is specificallydesigned for maximum portability andincludes a pH electrode and temperatureprobe for the measurement of moist or softfood or ingredients. With the 8100 Plus pH meteryou can test the pH fooddirectly, but for a higher degreeof accuracy, or for hard food oringredients where the electrodemay be damaged, preparation of a diluted sample is recommended. This 8100 Plus pH meter incorporates a clear custom LCD that shows thepH value from -2 to 16 pH with a 0.01 resolution, and displays thetemperature over the range -39.9 to 149.9°C. With a menu-driven custommicroprocessor, the user is helped with clear prompts during operation andcalibration.UK ingredients firm targets boomingfood market in South East AsiaUK-based food coatings specialistBowman Ingredients has continued itsglobal expansion with the launch of anew company in Thailand.Bowman Ingredients Thailand is theresult of a joint venture with a leadingfood coatings firm based nearBangkok. This means themachine can print at the speed of theline, even when packs are very closelyspaced, without ever missing a pack. ICE director Chris Simpson says,“We believe the arrival of the Vulcanhas introduced a new era for printer applicator technology, one wherelabelling is no longer the slowest part of the packing line. The benefits ofthis machine can be seen not just in day-to-day operations but, equallyimportant, on the bottom line.”Sweet solution in packaging for EastEnd Nurseries of HullEast End Nurseries of Hull is aprincipal fruit grower and member ofthe Total Berry Group, using HolfeldHP punnets to supply a leading UKfood and clothing retail chain.Kevin Hobson, Nursery Manager, says, “We are delighted with theperformance of Holfeld punnets, withtheir product delivery, their customerservice record both internally andexternally and in the consistent qualityof their punnets.”The Nursery is a major customer forHolfeld taking its range of HP soft fruitpunnets specially designed for theretail customer. For bothabsorption and reflectance in quality control applications, QE Pro provides lower limits ofdetection and enables measurements over a wider concentration range.Thermoelectric control of the detector improves the stability of the detector for lengthymeasurements, where thermal noise convolutes the signal. TEC cooling dramatically reducesthermal noise and holds the QE Pro’s stability to 4 dark counts over a 60°C ambient temperaturerange. This stability allows the spectrometer to be used for demanding online and at-line qualitycontrol measurements.Food & Drink International 7www.fdiforum.netPartnering up to makethe supply chain greenerFrozen warehousing specialists Partner Logisticshave teamed up with Birds Eye and DHL to take partin a new project which uses double deck trailers totransport frozen goods from the warehouse to thedistribution centre. During operation, water and other powder or liquid ingredients areadded to the mixing vessel – the unit is designed for a wide range of formulations, and can rapidlydisperse and hydrate gums and thickeners used in low-fat recipes. Once the aqueous phase is complete, the semi-automatic plant incorporates the oil phase at a set rate, ensuring a stable emulsion. Finally, aftera brief period of recirculation through the In-Line mixer, thefinished product is ready for discharge.Managing Director Adrian Ling says, “We have used Silversonfor many years so there was really only one choice of supplierwhen we decided to update our mixing facilities. From the outset, they supplied us with a trial machine, which allowed us to fullyevaluate every aspect of the unit. “Silverson were very receptive to our ideas and a final designwas agreed on. Within a few days of delivery the new unit wasmanufacturing our finished product.“Not only has the Sauce Plant been made to the highestspecification, it has also increased efficiency, enhanced hygiene and, most importantly, enabled us to manufacture arange of products due to the flexibility designed into its construction.“One of the features we really wanted was a pre-programmable mixing schedule for manufacture of a batch fromstart to finish, with different menus for different products. We were very pleased with the format and programmabilityachieved with this unit. To have exact control of the mixing procedure ensures a very uniform product, batch afterbatch.”Precia-Molen maximise beer duty refund forMarston’sMarston’s are minimising their beer duty by claiming arefund on the ‘dregs’ from returned kegs and casks, known as ‘ullage’.Before sterilising the casks and kegs, any beerremaining in the container is emptied and collected in atrade approved vessel. This procedure then allows theweights, and therefore the volumes, to be recorded andany beer duty previously paid can then be reclaimed. With a current maintenance and calibration contract inplace with Precia-Molen, the company supplied a newstamped ullage ‘return’ vessel and replaced all theindicators on the holding vessels. A platform scale wasalso supplied to compliment the ullage vessel.Precia-Molen redesigned this vessel to incorporate fourload cells and oversize foundation plates which facilitatethe regular use of a force calibration rig to recalibrate andcomplete the reverification of the vessel for trade use. A model I200 weight indicator was alsosupplied to complete the installation.Food & Drink International 9www.fdiforum.netVerderair Hi-Clean rangefrom VerderVerder has introduced the Verderair Hi-Clean rangeof air-operated double diaphragm pumps.
