Different paper finishes andtextures, for example soft velvet, will demonstrate how boxes can incorporate the additional sensoryelements of touch and feel to deliver further brand differentiation and consumer appeal.Decoration can also be used to create a distinctive contrast between the outside and inside of apack – for example subtle exterior colours combined with brighter metallic effects inside that generateexcitement and surprise as the box is opened.Pollard Boxes is the only UK company to offer an in-house print finishing service, enablingcustomers to source a complete one-stop solution for their luxury packaging requirements.Bagger design lifts accuracy and speed forchangeoverA radically new design of bagging machine is beingdemonstrated at the PPMA Total Show by PFM for the firsttime in Europe, showing how faster and more accuratechangeover, as well as greater accuracy and consistency inseal quality, can be achieved via its completely revised filmhandling system. The machine breaks new ground in bagging machinedesign by carrying the film unwind mechanism at the siderather than, as traditionally, at the rear. This allows the film path to include a turner bar, the key tothe system, immediately before the forming tube. The angleof the bar is adjustable via motors to provide lateralmovement of the film, and hence automatic film centring, with the position held in memory and monitored electronically during production. No longer is it necessary for the operator to centre film largely by hand on a trial-and-error basis, using adjustable reel cones.CSB helps success flowfor Fripa A software solution from CSB-System is helpingGerman food wholesaler Fripa maintain itsreputation for prompt delivery. The growth of e-commerce has put big brands in a position where they can afford toundercut smaller organisations – and smaller organisations often can’t doanything about it without threatening their already narrow margins. When you can use data to understand your customers and theirpreferences, you’re empowered to make proactive and reactive decisions.Technology provides these insights and more besides. You might not be able to compete on a penny-to-penny basis, but themarket rewards initiative and abhors stagnancy. Whether you usetechnology or not, don’t resign yourself to a life in the shadow of yourcompetitors: always move forward, always endeavour to please yourcustomers, and always offer the best possible deal.New agents extend Proseal’s globalreach Leading heat sealingspecialist Proseal has furtherextended its global footprintwith the appointment of newagents in Spain, the MiddleEast, South Africa andThailand. Apps could boostalcohol sales According to consumer insight firm, Canadean, mobile apps are a novel means of encouragingconsumers to more commonly pair food and drinks, but to also consider beverages other than winewhen doing so. The company found that 35% of consumersworldwide see food pairing as a key considerationwhen choosing alcoholic drinks. However, thisbehaviour is more prevalent among older adultsthan younger ones, as the figure rises to 43% ofthose aged 55 and over, but decreases to 26% for18-24 year-olds. As such, social media and appswill be crucial tools in encouraging youngerconsumers to think about food and drink pairingmore often. Brands should consider consumer-dedicatedmobile apps encouraging pairing, or targetingfunctionality like near-field communication (NFC)and augmented reality. The recent success ofPokémon Go shows the potential for augmentedreality, with apps featuring phone cameras to layernew pieces of information in front of whatconsumers can see.
