This information can then be exported for review. It has been designed to enable loading operations to run more efficiently by providing crucialinformation in real time. Increasing efficiency at the loading dock cuts costs in terms of reducing thenumber of loading docks required in a facility and ensuring assets are used as economically aspossible. When capacity is tight, the cost of installing additional loading dock can prove expensive. Havingstaff and assets sat waiting for docks to become available during busy periods is also costly.Potter Group Logistics is awarded BRC Global StandardPotter Group Logistics, one of the UK’s leading logisticsservice providers for specialist goods, has just received its BRCGlobal Standard accreditation for the storage and distribution ofambient foods at its Selby distribution centre. The latest step was the installation of a machinevision system from Cognex to deliver checks of100% of the seals on sachets. Consisting of an In-Sight Micro vision system, In-Sight Explorer visionsoftware with PatMax pattern recognition technologyand a Cognex VisionView 700 visualisation panel. The system was installed by aku.automation GmbHof Aalen, Germany. The system assesses sealed seams at speed. Inthe camera’s black-and-white mode, the fine relief ofthe welded seams shows contrast between light anddark. Material overlaps or defective welds are thenrejected. Using PatMax pattern recognition technology, theIn-Sight Micro works out the observed values, checks them against tolerance values using aninternal processor and if there are anomalies, itsends a not-in-order signal to the PLC, whichremoves products.05-09:Layout 1 14/9/12 09:57 Page 1Partner Logistics freezer warehouses gain BRCcertificationPartner Logistics has been awarded fullquality certification for its two UK frozen foodwarehouse facilities after meeting BRC’srigorous Global Standard for Storage andDistribution. Both their Wisbech, Cambridgeshire andGloucester warehouses met all the BRCrequirements following two days of on-siteauditing at each location, examining everyaspect of the firm’s operations.
