Thesavings are likely to be even higherbecause of reduced CO2 emissions and a lower Climate Change Levy, although these have yet tobe quantified.Westons Cider’s Jason Roberts says, “Before we installed the RO system I could put my handon the boiler blowdown pipe and it was warm, so there must have been hot water beingdischarged frequently into the blowdown vessel from the boiler. Now it’s almost always cold, sowe’re definitely losing less water and energy.”06-07:Layout 1 20/9/13 14:08 Page 13M Molecular Detection System receivesAOAC validation 3M’s Food Safety department hasannounced that its Molecular DetectionAssay Salmonella has been validatedthrough AOAC International as a FirstAction Official Method of Analysis (OMAmethod number 2013.09) for thedetection of Salmonella in selected foods. The air pouches themselves arealso priced significantly below any similar system, providing aneconomical solution for new businesses that have not previouslyconsidered air pouches. The concept of using pouches of air to fill voids inside boxes hasbeen a popular concept for some time – however, a focus has beengiven to large packing operations with largely expensive and complexdelivery systems. The Mini Air System has been designed to produceair cushions, which can be used as protective packaging for void fill, block and brace, wrapping, layering and corner protection.Air cushions have many benefits, but cost savings have been thekey focus for Kite and integrated in to the marketing and e-commerce roll-out of the new product. This has been achievedthrough a ‘Mini Air calculator’ on its website where customers cansee the cost savings when switching to air cushions. This has showna potential 84% saving on void fill material costs, as well asenvironmental benefits when comparing the impact of manufacturinglarge bags of polystyrene chips to flat air bag film. The system is incredibly easy to use and highly versatile, making itboth suitable for large packaging operations and smaller set-ups as aspace saving tool. Customers can also choose from six differentcushion types which can be torn off one-by-one via a perforated edge. The Mini Air System is quality guaranteed and testing has beencarried out on both the machine and all types of film. For more information, visit www.kitepackaging.co.ukwww.fdiforum.net08-09:Layout 1 20/9/13 13:44 Page 2Next >
