What recent innovations in the sector haveyou been most impressed by?The seafood industry is always adapting to fresh challenges – and there are many of themto face! I think what has impressed me most is the willingness to come together in search of acommon solution to these challenges. And there are countless good examples of thispragmatic approach in action – when it comes to sustainability, ethics, discards, differentsectors of the industry face different kinds of pressures, yet all parties have been able to cometogether for the greater good.Tell us something that people may not realise about your companyThere are three core strands of our work, promoting consumption, enhancing reputationand keeping industry informed. Our promotional and reputational campaigns are wellunderstood and admired, but a lot of our work is delivered quietly in the background, with staffnot always keen to stand in the limelight. As a Seafish newbie, I’ve been impressed to see justhow broad a range of work we undertake. What do you think will be the biggest challenges to your industry inthe next few years?Sustainability is now a core part of the industry’s thinking and the focus is turning to ethicsand the human element of the term ‘responsible sourcing’. We have recently set up of aSeafood Ethics Working Group, which brings together fishers, producers, food service, retailers, NGOs and other interested parties with a clear aim of improving standards across thesupply chain – another fine example of that pragmatic approach.Stay in touch withFood & Drink InternationalFor more up to the minute information from thefood and drink industry, visit Food & DrinkInternational online at www.fdiforum.net.
