Industry leaders unite to bolster Europe’s food manufacturing tech sector

Four major players in the food manufacturing technologies and equipment market—Alfa Laval, Krones, SPX FLOW, and Tetra Pak, have launched a new industry alliance aimed at strengthening Europe’s position in the global market. The coalition, called Food Manufacturing Technologies Europe (FMTE), seeks to unite the sector’s stakeholders to address fragmented representation and better influence EU policy.

The group invites other companies across the sector, from SMEs to multinationals, to join the alliance in shaping a more resilient, innovative, and sustainable European food manufacturing landscape.

FMTE will focus on three strategic areas: improving sector competitiveness, scaling sustainable innovations, and ensuring the industry has a more substantial presence in EU policy discussions. With the European market contributing significantly to a global sector projected to reach €118.4 billion by 2030, the alliance intends to offer a central platform for collaboration across mechanical and digital equipment providers, machine manufacturers, and food processing technology firms.

Despite rapid innovation, the industry faces persistent challenges: supply chain volatility, regulatory pressures, and the need to decarbonise operations. FMTE aims to tackle these by promoting best practices, sharing data and insights, and facilitating coordinated action.

The group positions itself as the sector’s central voice and a key contributor to the EU’s climate and industrial competitiveness goals.
