Kraft Heinz to phase out artificial dyes by 2027

Kraft Heinz has announced it will eliminate all Food, Drug & Cosmetic (FD&C) colour additives from its US product range by the end of 2027. The company has also committed to not launching any new US products containing these synthetic dyes, effective immediately.

The decision aligns with the US Food and Drug Administration’s recent plan to phase out petroleum-based food dyes—including Red No. 3, Yellow No. 5, and Blue No. 1—by the end of 2026. These dyes are widely used across the food industry but have been under increased regulatory scrutiny.

Currently, nearly 90% of Kraft Heinz’s US product sales already come from items free of FD&C colours. Products still containing them include specific flavours of Country Time, Crystal Light, Kool-Aid, and Mio.
