Mars, Inc. has become the first pet food company globally to adopt the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability (GDST) Standard, marking a significant step toward improved supply chain transparency in the sector. The company has partnered with Wholechain, a GDST Verified Capable solution provider, to implement digital, interoperable traceability across its seafood ingredient sourcing.
This move enables Mars to capture and share standardised data throughout its supply chain, supporting responsible sourcing, compliance with ESG policies, and improved risk management. The partnership provides the multinational with increased visibility from origin to finished product, thereby strengthening both product integrity and supply chain resilience.
Wholechain’s platform, already deployed across various commodities, is being used to integrate traceability into Mars’ seafood operations. The initiative also positions Mars as an early mover in exploring the GDST framework beyond seafood, with potential applications across other commodity supply chains such as palm oil, soy, and poultry.
This development aligns with growing investor and industry pressure for supply chain accountability and data interoperability, making Mars a key contributor to the broader adoption of traceability standards across global markets.
