Swedish startup LayerLogic, a spin-off from Chalmers University of Technology, has raised €470,000 in pre-seed funding to advance its cutting-edge food safety technology. The investment, led by Scientifica Venture Capital, will support the company’s goal to scale its rapid food contamination detection platform.
Founded in 2024, LayerLogic has developed a portable graphene-based biosensor designed to detect foodborne pathogens in real-time. The technology, built on graphene field-effect transistors (gFETs), enables rapid identification of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other contaminants on food production lines. The system delivers digital results within 15 minutes, significantly faster than traditional lab tests, which typically take up to four days.
This innovation is poised to streamline food safety processes, helping manufacturers minimise downtime, reduce waste, and cut costs by detecting contamination early in the production process.
The funding round, part of LayerLogic’s selection in the Super Sapiens Europe initiative, will drive the final stages of product development and support its deployment in operational food environments. Scientifica’s investment reflects its commitment to backing scalable, science-driven innovations with industrial and social impact.
