The European Union saw a significant rise in poultry meat imports during the first quarter of 2025, with a 13.7% year-on-year increase. This growth, bringing the total imports to 254,756 tonnes, was primarily driven by Brazil, which sent 88,937 tonnes, a 30.1% jump from the previous year. Imports from China surged by 71.8%, reaching 17,987 tonnes.
While imports climbed, the EU’s poultry meat exports remained relatively stable, with a slight 0.8% increase to 520,103 tonnes compared to the same period in 2024. Exports to markets such as Ghana and the Democratic Republic of Congo showed strong growth, while shipments to Vietnam and Ukraine experienced declines.
In terms of pricing, the EU continues to maintain a premium broiler price of €295.05 per 100 kg, well above global competitors. Brazil’s price stands at €253.59, and the United States is notably lower at €114.96. The price gap reflects ongoing competitive pressures in global poultry markets.
