Ferrero’s annual Cocoa Charter Progress Report reveals substantial strides in the company’s responsible cocoa sourcing strategy. The Cocoa Charter focuses on four core pillars: sustainable livelihoods, human rights, environmental protection, and supplier transparency.
In the 2021/22 crop year, Ferrero made significant progress in supporting cocoa farmers. Around 64,000 farmers received individual coaching on agricultural and business planning, while 40,000 farmers were provided with long-term Agricultural Development Plans. The company’s traceability system remained robust, with over 182,000 farmers mapped and 470,000 hectares of land assessed for deforestation risk. This ensures that cocoa is not sourced from protected areas.
Ferrero continues its commitment to full supply chain transparency. For the 2021/22 season, the company sourced 70% of its cocoa with physical traceability, allowing beans to be tracked from farm to factory. Additionally, approximately 85% of Ferrero’s total cocoa comes from dedicated grower groups, with 80% of these groups having been part of Ferrero’s supply chain for over three years.
The company’s ongoing efforts aim to enhance farmers’ livelihoods, protect children’s rights, and promote environmental sustainability, reinforcing its position as a leader in responsible cocoa sourcing.
