AI drives efficiency in cultured meat production

The global market for artificial intelligence in cultured meat is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 39.8% between 2025 and 2034. AI is increasingly applied across cell line development, media optimisation, scaffold design, bioprocess monitoring, and quality control, enhancing production scalability and cost efficiency.

Cultured meat offers a sustainable alternative to conventional livestock, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and land requirements. AI technologies, including machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and predictive analytics, are improving production outcomes by optimising cell growth, refining nutrient composition, and enhancing taste and texture.

Industry investment is rising in response to growing demand for ethical and environmentally responsible protein sources. Companies are using AI to accelerate research and development, streamline production workflows, and scale supply chains. Key players in the sector include Eat Just, Aleph Farms, Mosa Meat, UPSIDE Foods, JBS, BioTech Foods, BlueNalu, and Shiok Meats.

North America maintains a strong market share due to advanced R&D capabilities and regulatory support, while the Asia-Pacific region is expected to register the fastest growth driven by environmental policies and food security concerns. Challenges remain in high implementation costs, limited datasets, skilled labour shortages, and fragmented regulatory approval processes.

Recent collaborations highlight AI’s impact on cost reduction and productivity, such as Aleph Farms’ partnership with BioRaptor to enhance beef cultivation and BioCraft Pet Nutrition’s launch of AI-driven cell proliferation tools for pet food applications.
