Durham Box creates premium festive gifting experience for Ringtons

Corrugated packaging manufacturer, Durham Box, has partnered with long-standing customer Ringtons to produce a premium, laser-detailed seasonal gift box that demonstrates how digital print and advanced laser die-cutting can enhance retail packaging.

Commissioned for Ringtons’ 2025 Christmas gifting range, the one-piece box with lid (300 × 200 × 80 mm) features a clay-coated outer liner and white kraft inner liner, digitally printed on both sides for full-colour impact inside and out. The standout feature is intricate laser-cutting that reveals the print beneath and delivers a tactile, visually distinct finish that simply isn’t achievable with standard die-cutting technology.

“We really wanted to focus on the uniqueness of the pack itself, and the laser detailing achieves something that couldn’t have been done using a standard die-cutter,” said Sally Caton, business development manager at Durham Box. “It gives the pack a clear point of difference and opens up exciting creative possibilities for gifting.”

Durham Box manufactured 15,000 units for the project, continuing a successful working relationship with Ringtons that spans more than a decade, a partnership strengthened by shared values as family-owned North East businesses committed to quality and service.

Commenting on the finished packaging, Serena Philipson, head of product at Ringtons, said: “This pack has been a real hero for our festive range, with the laser-cut detailing adding a premium, precision finish that transforms what would otherwise be a standard gift box. Introducing laser technology required close collaboration, particularly around achieving perfect colour alignment beneath the detailed cut areas, but the outcome has been worth the focus.”

With strong commercial results already achieved, Ringtons plans to expand the use of laser-cut presentation packaging across future launches.

“We’re now exploring further laser-cut formats for a major gifting occasion early next year,” said Philipson. “The positive reaction from both our sales team and customers has already translated into increased orders.”
