The United States has lifted tariffs on key Brazilian exports, reducing costs for coffee and beef entering the American market. The move reverses an additional 40% levy imposed on Brazilian goods since August under a previous executive order.
Brazil is the world’s largest coffee producer, accounting for more than a third of global output. The removal of the surcharge comes at a time of strained supply and elevated prices linked to challenging growing conditions.
The tariff change follows early steps in trade discussions between Washington and BrasÃlia. Leaders from both countries held a call in early October to open formal negotiations, which remain underway.
US authorities are continuing a separate Section 301 investigation launched in July. The review is examining Brazil’s approach to digital trade, anti-corruption efforts, and access to its ethanol market, with findings yet to be released.
