LDC takes majority stake in Gressingham Foods

French poultry group LDC has acquired a majority interest in Gressingham Foods, strengthening its position in the UK market through a deal completed with Green Label Holdings, the Buchanan family’s operating company.

Gressingham Foods supplies major retailers and foodservice operators with duck and other poultry products. The business manages its own farming operations, covering more than 250,000 square metres, which provides around half of its poultry supply. Its wider portfolio includes turkey, goose and guinea fowl, with production centred at its Suffolk headquarters.

The acquisition adds another UK asset to LDC’s network, following its earlier purchase of Capestone Organic Poultry in Wales. LDC has expanded steadily across Europe through targeted M&A activity and now operates more than 100 production sites across multiple countries.

Gressingham Foods has also been active in consolidation, having recently acquired UK foodservice supplier Central Foods.

According to Companies House filings, Green Label Holdings generated £188m in turnover for the year ending 28 February, compared with £171m in the previous financial year. Operating profit increased to £21.8m from £17.6m, with net profit rising to £15.7m from £12m.

Financial terms of the Gressingham deal have not been disclosed.
