Coca‑Cola joins MIT AI consortium to tackle global challenges

The Coca‑Cola Company has become a founding member of the MIT Generative AI Impact Consortium, a collective of industry leaders and MIT researchers focused on developing open-source solutions to complex societal challenges using AI. Other founding members include OpenAI, Analog Devices, Tata Group, SK Telecom, and TWG Global.

The consortium aims to combine academic research with industry expertise to ensure AI innovation progresses responsibly and with measurable impact. Coca‑Cola represents the consumer packaged goods sector in the consortium, applying its experience in AI across R&D, marketing, supply chain, and inventory management.

As part of its membership, Coca‑Cola has launched Project “Save the Orange” to combat citrus greening (HLB), a bacterial disease affecting nearly all orange trees in Florida and causing billions in losses worldwide. The initiative partners with Brazil-based Fundecitrus and Invaio Sciences, bringing together AgriTech, Biotech, Computer Science, Data Science, Life Sciences, and Public Policy experts.

Generative AI will accelerate research timelines, compressing processes that traditionally take years into months. Project “Save the Orange” integrates AI with advanced treatments, application technologies, and collaborative research to preserve global orange production and support farming communities.
