Danone Canada increases production capacity with major Boucherville expansion

Danone Canada has confirmed a significant capital investment to expand its Boucherville manufacturing site in Québec, marking the company’s largest spend in the country to date. The project is designed to boost output as national demand for yogurt continues to rise.

Frederic Guichard, President, Danone Canada, said: “Canadians are embracing healthier choices, and the rising popularity of yogurt, especially high-protein varieties, speaks volumes. Nutritious and accessible, yogurt has become a staple for families. This significant investment underscores our commitment to supporting local production and delivering on what we do best at Danone: bringing health through food.”

The expansion will lift the plant’s yogurt tub production capacity by 40%. It will also increase the site’s ability to receive and process Canadian raw milk by 20%. A new production line is already under construction and is scheduled to come online in 2026. The Boucherville facility is currently responsible for producing more than a third of the dairy yogurts sold across Canada, positioning the upgrade as a core part of Danone’s growth plans.

The company is also allocating funds to modernise the site’s energy systems through new energy-recovery equipment. The project forms part of the Government of Québec’s ÉcoPerformance programme under the Plan for a Green Economy 2030.

The Boucherville plant has been diverting at least 99% of its non-hazardous waste from landfill since 2022 and sends no hazardous waste to landfill. The latest investment adds to the $9 million announced earlier in 2025 to introduce PET-based individual yogurt cups, supporting long-term sustainability targets and future product development.
