The Delhi government is investing in new infrastructure to support food and technology-based startups, aiming to strengthen the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Two new food processing incubation centres will be developed at the Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University’s World Class Skill Centres located in Jhandewalan and Wazirpur. The initiative is part of the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, with an allocation of ₹4.5 crore.
The university has already received an initial grant of ₹50 lakh and has started procurement of bakery equipment for the incubators.
Three high-tech labs are being set up at Netaji Subhas University of Technology campuses, funded through a ₹3.06 crore CSR grant from the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation. These include two Internet of Things (IoT) labs and one fabrication lab. The facilities support prototyping, testing, and skills development for students, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
The broader PMFME scheme, launched in 2020 with a budget of ₹10,000 crore and extended to 2025–26, offers credit-linked subsidies, shared infrastructure, and targeted support through the One District One Product (ODOP) framework. It is designed to formalise the micro food processing sector, emphasising boosting MSME productivity and competitiveness.
These initiatives align with Delhi’s push to become a key hub for skilled innovation and enterprise development.
