DoorDash has reached an agreement to acquire UK-based food delivery service Deliveroo for £2.9 billion ($3.9 billion), expanding its global presence. The acquisition will see DoorDash pay £1.80 ($2.40) per Deliveroo share, representing a 29% premium over the share price on April 24, the day before the announcement.
This marks DoorDash’s second significant international acquisition in three years, following its 2022 purchase of Helsinki-based Wolt Enterprises. Post-acquisition, DoorDash will operate in more than 40 markets globally, further solidifying its position in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Deliveroo, founded in 2013, is active in nine countries, including the UK, France, Italy, and the UAE. In 2023, the UK and Ireland accounted for 59% of its business. With the acquisition, DoorDash aims to strengthen its foothold in these key markets.
This deal follows Prosus’s recent acquisition of Just Eat Takeaway.com, enhancing competition in the European food delivery sector.
