TurtleTree, a biotech company developing milk proteins through precision fermentation, has received formal clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirming the safety of its animal-free lactoferrin ingredient, LF+. The agency issued a “No Questions” letter in response to the company’s Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) submission, allowing for a broader commercial rollout.
The clearance positions TurtleTree to scale production and distribution of LF+, which is a bioactive milk protein known for supporting immune function, gut health and iron regulation. The ingredient is produced without the use of animals through microbial fermentation and is now approved for use in food and dietary supplements.
The Singapore- and US-based company is currently supplying LF+ to select partners in the food and supplement industries and plans further expansion through its consumer wellness brand, Intentional.
TurtleTree had previously self-affirmed GRAS status for the ingredient in late 2023. Still, the FDA’s formal response strengthens its regulatory foundation and commercial credibility across the health, nutrition, and food tech sectors.
