A new funding initiative from Innovate UK is helping agri-tech and food-tech businesses in Mid and North Wales tackle industry challenges. Thirteen companies have received support for projects aimed at advancing sustainability, improving food safety, and enhancing farming practices. These businesses are working on innovative solutions such as using Welsh wool for eco-friendly lubricants, developing AI-driven crop yield forecasting tools, and creating sustainable fertilizers from food waste.
The funding, part of Innovate UK’s Minimal Financial Assistance (MFA) programme, is designed to help businesses test early-stage ideas and develop scalable solutions. With projects addressing everything from pathogen detection to natural crop boosters, this initiative is building a foundation for long-term innovation in the Welsh agri-tech sector.
The current wave of funding reflects a growing commitment to strengthening the region’s rural economy and supporting a more sustainable food system. Innovate UK’s next competition opens in June 2025, offering further opportunities for businesses to receive support.
Businesses interested in applying are encouraged to register for the webinar on 3 July 2025 for guidance on submitting strong proposals.
