LDC completes exit from Shaken Udder after four-year growth phase

LDC has completed the sale of its minority stake in Shaken Udder to Idilia, the Spain-based food group. The move ends a four-year partnership that delivered strong commercial gains for the Essex-based milkshake producer.

During the investment period, Shaken Udder increased revenue by 91% and expanded its workforce by 66%. The company also achieved a compound annual growth rate of 23.5%, strengthening its position in the premium dairy drinks category.

The brand, founded in 2004, originally gained traction at UK festivals before moving into major national retailers. LDC’s backing in 2021 supported the company’s shift into new sales channels, the launch of new product lines, and an expansion of its retail footprint. Distribution points increased by roughly 14,500, and the business established a presence in the convenience sector through an ambient range. It also introduced a protein milkshake line that gained industry recognition in 2024.

Founder Jodie Howie said the partnership marked a major step in the company’s development, noting that “LDC’s backing has supported us in professionalising the business, securing our supply chain and aided us in attracting some top talent. We’ve come a long way together, and we’re proud of what the business has achieved.”

LDC’s in-house specialists provided support in supply chain diversification, marketing strategy, pricing analysis, cybersecurity, data protection, and ESG improvements. The senior team grew with four new appointments, bringing experience from major FMCG brands.

The exit forms part of LDC’s wider activity in the consumer sector, which includes investments in Bramble Foods and Bespoke Kitchen Foods. LDC reports significant long-term value creation across its consumer partnerships over the past decade.

Advisers on the transaction included Grant Thornton, KPMG, and Freeths for LDC; Birketts for Shaken Udder; and EY and Clifford Chance for Idilia.
