Roberts Bakery faces potential administration amid market pressures

Roberts Bakery is on the brink of administration after filing a Notice of Intention to appoint administrators, signalling efforts to restructure and stabilise its operations. The company confirmed it is in talks with potential partners, funders, and buyers to determine its future direction.

The Cheshire-based bakery has faced significant operational challenges over the past two years, including a factory fire that disrupted two-thirds of its production and resulted in a sustained loss of market share. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to cut around 250 jobs at its North West facility and close another site in central England to mitigate ongoing financial strain.

Rising costs have added further pressure, with inflation in energy and ingredients and heightened competition within the UK bakery sector affecting profitability. The business has stated that it remains focused on safeguarding jobs, maintaining its brands, and restoring financial stability while continuing day-to-day operations and fulfilling customer orders.

Roberts Bakery, known for its range of bread and bakery products sold nationwide, is one of several UK food manufacturers navigating inflationary headwinds and supply chain challenges that continue to reshape the country’s bakery landscape.
