Taiwan will introduce an official national vegan certification label in February 2026, aiming to standardise plant-based product claims and strengthen the competitiveness of local vegan goods in international markets. The scheme will add a sixth category to Taiwan’s existing vegetarian labelling framework, tentatively titled “All Plant-Based” (全植物素 VEGAN).
The label will remain voluntary for food producers who meet the certification requirements. The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) is consulting stakeholders to finalise the naming, criteria, and implementation roadmap. The current schedule includes feedback collection in August 2025, release of a draft notice in September, official regulation in February 2026, and full adoption by January 2028.
The move follows Taiwan’s engagement with the ISO definition of “vegan” and aligns with emerging plant-based policies under inter-ministerial discussion. Officials emphasise that the certification will help prevent inconsistent or misleading labeling of imported products and make it easier for international consumers to identify compliant foods.
The policy is expected to support Taiwanese manufacturers seeking international recognition for plant-based products and enhance the country’s positioning as a plant-forward destination for both domestic and global markets.
