Turkey starts egg exports to U.S. amid supply shortages

Turkey has begun exporting eggs to the U.S. to address supply disruptions caused by the ongoing avian influenza outbreak. The shipments, coordinated by two authorised firms, will continue until July, with a total of 15,000 metric tons expected to be delivered.

The highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has impacted U.S. egg production since 2022, leading to losses in 32 commercial laying hen flocks in 2025 alone. Cases have been confirmed in multiple states, including California, North Carolina, Ohio, and Iowa, according to the USDA.
