Unilever weighs potential sale of legacy food brands

Unilever is assessing options for a possible sale of three long-standing UK food brands – Marmite, Colman’s and Bovril – as part of a broader portfolio reshaping strategy aimed at concentrating on higher-growth categories. The assets collectively generate an estimated £200 million in annual revenue.

Industry sources indicate that Pot Noodle is not included in the review. The reported evaluation aligns with Unilever’s ongoing efforts to adjust its product mix following several divestments already completed this year. The company sold European meat-free producer The Vegetarian Butcher in March and is progressing with the separation of its global ice cream division, scheduled to conclude in December 2025.

The potential disposal underscores rising pressure on major FMCG groups to streamline operations, sharpen category focus, and strengthen resilience amid shifting consumer demand and cost volatility. Unilever has not issued a public statement regarding the reported review.
