US eases trade pressure on Brazilian coffee and beef

The United States has lifted tariffs on key Brazilian exports, reducing costs for coffee and beef entering the American market. The move reverses an additional 40% levy imposed on Brazilian goods since August under a previous executive order.

Brazil is the world’s largest coffee producer, accounting for more than a third of global output. The removal of the surcharge comes at a time of strained supply and elevated prices linked to challenging growing conditions.

The tariff change follows early steps in trade discussions between Washington and Brasília. Leaders from both countries held a call in early October to open formal negotiations, which remain underway.

US authorities are continuing a separate Section 301 investigation launched in July. The review is examining Brazil’s approach to digital trade, anti-corruption efforts, and access to its ethanol market, with findings yet to be released.
