Utz to remove artificial colours from all products by 2027

Utz Brands, a leading U.S. manufacturer of branded salty snacks, has announced plans to phase out certified FD&C colours across its entire product portfolio by the end of 2027. The move follows broader consumer trends favouring cleaner, more transparent ingredients and aligns with evolving regulatory guidance on food additives.

Currently, 80% of Utz’s products are free from FD&C colours, and several brands have already eliminated them entirely. From this autumn, select packaging will emphasise the absence of artificial colours and highlight natural, simplified ingredients. The initiative forms part of Utz’s longer-term strategy to balance consumer expectations, product quality, and regulatory compliance.
