Walmart expands dairy production capacity in Georgia

Walmart has opened a large-scale milk processing facility in Valdosta, Georgia, adding more than 400 jobs and boosting dairy supply for more than 650 of its stores and Sam’s Club locations across the Southeast. The 300,000-square-foot site represents a $350 million investment and forms part of the retailer’s long-term plan to strengthen domestic manufacturing and tighten control over its supply chain.

The new facility sources milk from regional dairy farms and handles processing and packaging for multiple product lines sold under Walmart’s Great Value and Sam’s Club Member’s Mark brands. The operation is designed to increase supply reliability for essential grocery categories in a region where demand for affordable dairy continues to rise.

This development follows earlier investments in company-operated processing sites, including the first Walmart-owned milk facility in Indiana and two case-ready beef facilities in Georgia and Kansas. These projects contribute to Walmart’s broader push to increase the share of U.S.-made, grown, or assembled goods within its national footprint, aligned with its multibillion-dollar domestic sourcing programme.

As part of the launch, Walmart issued small community grants in Valdosta. The company reported that its stores, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation distributed $56 million to organisations across Georgia in the last financial year.
