Umami Bioworks pilots cultivated seafood pet food in Europe and Asia

Umami Bioworks has partnered with Friends & Family Pet Food Company to introduce cultivated seafood pet food across international markets, starting with Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. The collaboration targets sustainable, high‑quality protein sources for pet nutrition and aims to integrate cultivated seafood into mainstream pet food offerings.

The partnership follows Umami Bioworks’ registration of two cultivated seafood ingredients for use in EU pet food. The company plans additional product launches in 2026 to expand the availability of these ingredients. The European pet food sector, with nearly 90 million pet-owning households, is growing at more than 7% annually, creating demand for innovative and sustainable products.

Friends & Family Pet Food Company recently obtained regulatory approval from Singapore’s Animal & Veterinary Services, making it the first company in Asia cleared to sell cultivated pet food. The company’s products will initially use cells from Kampung chickens, a breed from Malaysia and Indonesia. Eight SKUs are scheduled for launch later this year, with additional products in development.

The initiative highlights emerging trends in cultivated protein for pets and reflects increasing regulatory clarity in both European and Asian markets.
